HOME BATTERIES

Home batteries: keep using your solar after the sun goes down

Your panels make the most power in the middle of the day, when most homes use the least. A battery stores what you don't use, so you can run your home on your own solar into the evening and overnight.

WHY ADD A BATTERY

Solar without a battery misses the evening

Solar panels only make power while the sun is up. Around lunchtime most systems make far more than the house needs, and that spare power goes to the grid for a small credit.

Then the sun goes down, everyone gets home, and the cooking, heating, lights and TV all come on. Without a battery, all of that power is bought back from the grid at full price.

A battery closes that gap. It keeps your spare solar for later, so the power you make during the day is the power you use at night.

HOW IT WORKS

A day in your home with a battery

Tap between day and night to see where your power goes.

SolarMaking powerRestingYour homeRuns on solarRuns on batteryBatteryChargingPowering homeThe gridGets the spareTops up

In the day, your solar powers your home first. The spare fills your battery, and anything left over goes to the grid.At night, your battery takes over and runs your home on the solar you saved. The grid only tops up what the battery can't cover.

Morning

The sun comes up and your solar starts powering the house. Breakfast, the kettle and the dishwasher all run on your own power.

Midday

Your panels make more than the house needs. Instead of sending it all to the grid, the spare power fills the battery.

Evening

The sun goes down and the battery takes over, running your lights, cooking, heating and TV on the solar you saved.

Overnight

If the battery runs low, the grid quietly tops up the rest. In the morning the sun is back and it all starts again.

WHAT A BATTERY DOES FOR YOU

More of your own power, less from the grid

Lower power bills

Every kilowatt hour you use from your battery is one you don't have to buy from the grid at evening prices.

Less reliance on the grid

The more of your own solar you use, the less rising electricity prices affect your household budget.

Power in a blackout

With backup installed, your battery can keep the essentials running, like the fridge, lights and wifi, when the grid goes down.

IS A BATTERY RIGHT FOR YOU?

A battery usually makes sense if

  • You already have solar, or you're getting it, and a lot of your power goes to the grid during the day.
  • Your household uses most of its power in the evening and overnight.
  • Your feed in credit is small compared with what you pay for power.
  • You'd like the lights and fridge to stay on in a blackout.
  • You have, or are planning, an EV or a heat pump hot water system.

Not sure if it stacks up?

Send us a recent power bill and we'll tell you honestly whether a battery is worth it for your home. If it isn't, we'll say so.

THE BATTERY WE INSTALL MOST

Sigenergy SigenStor

Sigenergy is the battery we recommend for most homes, and we're a Sigenergy Gold Installer. SigenStor brings the inverter, battery and energy management together in one neat system on the wall.

One system. Solar, battery and EV charging work together and show up in the one app.

Grows with you. Battery modules stack, so you can start with what you need now and add more later.

Smart. It can plan when to charge and when to use your stored power around your electricity prices.

We also install Tesla Powerwall and Enphase batteries where they suit a home better.

MONITORING

See where your power comes from and where it goes

Every battery we install comes with an app on your phone, and we set it up with you on install day. It shows what's happening in your home right now, and across the day, week and year.

What the app shows

How much power your solar is making, how much your home is using, how full the battery is, and what you're buying from or sending to the grid.

Why it matters

Once you can see when your home uses the most power, it's easy to move jobs like the dishwasher, washing or EV charging into the sunny hours, and to check the battery is covering your evenings.

Peace of mind

You can spot a problem early, see what you've saved and know your system is doing its job. If something looks off, give us a call and we'll take a look.

THE MYSIGEN APP

Your whole system in your pocket

If you have a Sigenergy system, it all runs through the free mySigen app on iPhone or Android. It's one place to see your solar, battery, home and EV charging, and to change how your system works.

Live energy flow. See where your power is going right now, from the roof to the battery, the house and the grid.

Sigen AI Mode. Let the system plan when to charge and when to use the battery, based on your electricity prices and the weather ahead.

History and savings. Look back over any day, week, month or year to see what you made, used, stored and saved.

Ask Sigen AI. Ask questions in plain English, like where your solar went last week, and get an answer straight away.

Set up for you. We connect your system to the app on install day and walk you through the screens that matter.

WORKING WITH US

From first chat to switch on

1. A quick chat

Tell us about your home and your power bills. A 10 minute call is usually enough to know if a battery is worth a closer look.

2. Your design and quote

We size the battery around how you actually use power, and show the rebate and the numbers clearly on your quote.

3. Installation

Our experienced installers fit your battery, usually in a day, and we look after the paperwork and the rebate for you.

4. Switch on and app setup

We switch your system on, set up the app with you and show you what to look for. After that, we're only a phone call away.

REBATES AND FINANCE

Help with the cost of a battery

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate takes a good amount off the price of an eligible battery, and NSW households may be able to spread the rest with an interest free loan.

The rebate steps down on 1 January 2027, so it's worth getting a quote before then.

QUESTIONS

Battery questions we hear a lot

How does a home battery work?

Your solar panels power your home first. When they make more than you need, the spare power charges the battery instead of going to the grid. When your solar can't keep up, like in the evening, the battery powers your home. The grid only steps in when the battery runs low.

Can I add a battery to my existing solar?

Usually, yes. Most batteries, including SigenStor, can be added to an existing system. We'll check your current inverter and switchboard and let you know the simplest way to do it.

Will a battery keep my power on in a blackout?

Only if it's installed with backup, so let us know if this matters to you. We'll set up backup for the circuits you choose, such as the fridge, lights and wifi.

What size battery do I need?

It depends on how much power you use in the evening and overnight, and how big your solar system is. We work it out from your bills and usage, so you're not paying for storage you won't fill.

How long does a battery last?

Quality home batteries are built to last many years and usually come with a 10 year warranty. We'll take you through the warranty on the battery we recommend.

Do I have to join a virtual power plant?

No. A virtual power plant, or VPP, lets an energy company use some of your stored power in return for credits or a better rate. Some offers are worth it and some aren't, and it's always your choice. We're happy to talk through the options.

Can I charge my EV from my battery?

Yes. SigenStor can include an EV charger as part of the same system, and other batteries work alongside a separate charger. A car can use a lot of power, so we'll size your system with that in mind.
