Energy Rebates 2025
Government Rebates + Incentives

Starting 1 July 2025, this federal initiative provides a 30% upfront rebate on the installation of a home battery system.
Whether you’re looking to add a battery to your existing solar setup or install a new system, this program is designed to make energy storage more accessible and affordable.

The NSW Government’s Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS) offers an upfront discount up to $2400 on the installation of eligible home battery systems.
This incentive aims to reduce electricity demand during peak periods by encouraging the adoption of battery storage. These discounts are applied directly at the point of sale by accredited installers.

STCs, or Small-scale Technology Certificates, are part of a Federal Gov scheme that helps reduce the upfront cost of installing solar panels.
When you install a solar system, you’re awarded a number of STCs based on the system size and your location. These are then traded like credits, and the value is applied as a point of sale discount off your system
With a standard solar panel system, energy generated during the day is used straight away. Without solar batteries, any unused energy simply goes to waste. Adding a solar battery means you can store energy to use later – at night or on cloudy, overcast days.

Frequently Asked Questions
When Does the Program Start
If it is legislated, the federal rebate will begin on July 1, 2025, and then reduce each year until 2030.
The Labour Goverment said that if re-elected they would allow batteries physically installed from May 5th and before July 1, 2025 to be valid but it must not be commissioned or switched on until after July 1st.
*6/5/25 Solar Partners will advise on any updates made by the Government as they are released. The rebate has not yet been legislated.
Who is eligible for the Battery Rebate?
• The rebate applies to new battery systems between 5 and 50 kWh usable capacity.
• The battery must be installed and connected to a new or existing solar system.
• Batteries must be Virtual Power Plant (VPP) ready, though participation in a VPP is optional.
• The Solar retailer / installer must be an approved CEC and NETCC like Solar Partners.
How much is the rebate?
The rebate is designed to reduce the upfront cost of home battery installations by about 30%. The actual dollar amount will depend on the size of the battery you have installed, in terms of kWh’s.
The 2025 rebate has been spruked at $372 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of usable battery capacity, but gov administrative fees and charges to the solar retailer, the actual battery price reduction is likely to be around $330 per usable kWh.
This has not be verified at this stage. But a 25-30% rebate of the total cost given upfront is still a brilliant offer.
What if my battery was installed recently?
Batteries installed from 5th May and before July 1, 2025, may still qualify——as long as they are not switched on until the program begins.
The Gov needs to comfirm this but reports are that they will be available.
Rooftop solar systems connected to the battery can be activated earlier.
You may add on to the battery you have recently installed to take advantage of the rebate.
Can I use both the Federal & State Rebates?
At this stage is has been reported that you will be able to combine the Federal rebate with Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) for solar panels, and with the NSW Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS) incentive.
It has not been 100% confirmed by the NSW government but likely to be very soon.
What if I already have a battery installed?
If your battery was installed and commissioned before July 1, 2025, you are not eligible for the rebate.
HOWEVER, you are entitled to the new rebate if you add another battery to your home increasing your battery storage. Homeowners can only claim the rebate once at each property.
Can I claim on multiple properties?
Yes, the Fed rebate is offered for each invidual property to be claimed once only.
Can I add more battery capacity later and still get the rebate?
No. The rebate is a one-time only opportunity per installation.
Unlike adding extra Solar panels, if you expand your battery storage after your original installation, the additional capacity will not be eligible for the rebate.
It is worthwhile considering the larger battery option now that gets you a higher rebate upfront, especoally if you plan on having EV and charger in the future.
